Your color and race makes a Big Difference

Publish by Blogger Blogging Blogs, guest opinion blog post,

As we all know that no matter what color or race we are treated differently. Some can say that we don't, it's 2009. Big mistake we are still treated differently in this millennium. In fact still many faces challenges in our jobs. I was naive to believe that we were all treated equally. I recently had some confrontations with my White American supervisor, I'm the only Asian American working for this company for several months before I even saw another person my race.

I'm not saying I was a bad worker because I'm the only person who does the job thoroughly there. So as my supervisor having problem with the company, all the anger probably had built up inside. As we get busy she is now irritated and cannot handle it when it gets busy do she gets angry.

Mind you this supervisor works with all her daughters in this same department. So I asked her to calm down. She's says "what your not helping or what"? I ignored her and continued to do my job. Since she came into work at 7 a.m. in the morning she is yelling about what hasn't been done and when she leaves nobody does anything. I was fed up with it, it's not my problem that other people don't do there jobs! I'm not a manager or a supervisor it's not my duty.

So then there were dirty silverware that our guests complained about so I took the silverware back to the kitchen. As usual our company try to save money so we had no dishwasher. There were plenty of silverware there except they were dirty also. So I organized it and ran it through the dish machine. And tried to get it together as fast as I can.

The supervisor comes running in the kitchen and yelling for me if I'm going to help her or what. Then she said you don't need all this silverware, and calls me a girls name that is mentally challenged, I was mad at this point. She in other words called me RETARDED!!! That is not nice to say or appropriate at all. So I went back to the dining area and cleaned the tables and mind my own business. She called the Manager down. The manager was looking all mad and angry at me at this point and then asked me what was going on. Like it was my fault that I can't do everything at one time.

So I told the manager that she was angry since she came in this morning about the girls in the previous shift didn't do anything. I told the manager it was not my responsibility, she said why don't you want to hear about it?! This is a manager's duty of course??? What kind of manager are you here? Okay..So as for the silverware I left it in the kitchen and didn't care if anyone needed it at this point. So the manager told me that we will talk after it slows down. My last comment I was giving my verbal 2 week notice. The manager looks was a face that was happy that I said that.

The manager came by and didn't even say a word to me. The other supervisor in the other hand later realize what she did and said sorry I was very upset and somewhat she was sorry. This was her only income so losing this job and trying to say sorry to me was hard for her. As for all the kitchen crew saw the whole the thing and told me I should've walked out and punched her in her face.

I worked next with her and her daughter, which her daughter didn't say one word to me when I said Good Morning. So I ignored all of them playing there little teenage games. I didn't talk to them unless I had to and took care of our guests. I wrote my last days of work and times on a paper and hung it up for the manager.

She came in the back room and told me she received the note and told me she and the other workers couldn't understand why I don't talk to them? And told me to make my last remaining days a fun personal one. Okay I have more laughters more than you in my days. She didn't care why I left or want to leave, and was like okay.

While I'm the only one as usually stocking everything and tells me to restock the milks also. I didn't care because I was the last person restocking the whole thing. As for supervisor and her daughter stood in the front cashier did nothing while I did the rest of the duties. Did I go up and complain? No I took it like a man and did my job it wasn't going to kill me.

I know that being Asian they didn't care but using me they did. I worked during my pregnancy and after two weeks of my delivery I went back to work for them. I open longer hours for operation if they asked me to, and also if they needed me to prepare a certain area for guest needs I was the one they left a note for me to do. I never minded doing the extra work. But now I know that I took care of their business and they didn't TAKE care of me.

I have two day left this week and I'll let you know what human resources will tell me....
